Technology is not a panacea for what ails higher education

This is something that’s been on my mind for some time. In my view, technology is not a panacea or silver bullet. (Yes, I said that!) It is, however, an excellent way to engage students in the learning process, more students, I believe, than are currently engaged. What accounts for my fascination (some say obsession) with instructional technology?

It’s simple really. My association with the folk exploring the educational applications of IT at UMW, has provided the richest most interdisciplinary thinking on teaching and learning that I’ve ever experienced at UMW. It’s not the technology. It’s what the technology enables vis a vis teaching and learning.
