Hypertext Fever?

I was working on a research paper today that I’m presenting at a conference this weekend. (As I told my students, “Do as I say, not as I do.”)

As I was writing, I felt this odd discomfort at not being able to link out to resources on the web to illustrate and flesh out my writing. I wonder if I’m coming down with something. 😉

I guess there’s no reason why the paper has to be formatted as a linear, text document. Since I’m emailing it to the discussant, I could always include the links, though in truth the way I write for an on-line environment is quite different, more horizontal rather than the vertical form of a traditional text document. However, when I prepare to submit the paper for publication, I’ll have to regress to the linear version, since I don’t know of any journals in economics that accept hypertext or multimedia documents. Maybe some day…
