I had a couple of more thoughts on the latest meta activity my students completed. The final count was 15/49 students, or a little less than a third participating. It was substantially more than completed the first meta (10/49), though substantially fewer than the number completing the second meta last semester (50%). In general, students did quite a good job justifying their choices on this meta, much better than their first submissions and much better than this point last term.
When we discussed the last meta in class, I asked students how long it had taken to do this one. The complexity of this topic was probably 6 on a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is the most complex material in the course. The length of this topic was probably 4. So the topic is probably somewhat representative of the assignments. The students in both sections of the course told me that the assignment had taken from 30 to 60 minutes to complete. They concluded that it wasn’t that long.
